Buffalo hide help
« on: March 04, 2010, 07:58:16 PM »

I have a half of a buffalo hide I am going to try and tan with the basic tanning kit.  Do you think the kit will do a half buffalo hide?  Also is the process the same as a deer or elk? Anything I need to know before I start.  The hide was shipped to me already salted and is still very moist and heavy.

Its the same process, the only difference is the amount of crystals and oil required.

The size of the half will determine if the basic kit has enough stuff to tan it.  If it is over 12 sq. ft. you will need more crystals and oil.  You can buy refills and extra packs here:

If the hide is well salted you have plenty of time to order more materials.
