Tanning types

I was wondering what the types of tanning are. What does Indian style mean?

That usually means brain tan.

Nature is pretty amazing in that every animal's brain is large enough to tan its own hide.  The problem is that it is difficult, smelly, and pretty messy.

Many Native Americans would brain tan a hide then smoke it over a special fire to weatherproof it.  That's what would give the leather a gold color.

Ok so Indian tan is supposed to be a brownish gold color as opposed to your stuff which is white?

brain tan is pure white until it is smoked.  Many ceremonial garbs which were used for special occasions were not smoked and left white.
