ok what i do for small jobs like tails i have a woodworking blade (took from my art teacher)that is extremely sharp(the blood doesnt lie) and it fits in an exacto knife. its curved and very thin and is perfect for first cuts and small jobs. thats what i would use to get the crap out of the ears. either that or a scalpel. just be very careful!! or use the knife to help you cut it out and use needle nosed pliers to pull it out. pulling sometimes works better as it wont hurt the hide and it gets most of it out. if youd like it to be easier, then salt it before you flesh it then, when its dried the flesh is harder and thus easier to get out. or you can tan it then use sandpaper to soften it up or the easiest thing to do if you just want them soft is to put some lotion on them. i have a leather softening glycerin stuff that i use to soften them if theyre too thin to sand.
